Interesting Facts Of GREAT HIMALAYAN NATIONAL PARK

1. The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) is located in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, India. GHNP has formally declared a National Park in 1999, scattering an area of 754.4 sq km. The Great Himalayan National Park is a habitat to numerous flora and more than 376 fauna species, including approximately 32 mammals, 180 birds, 3 reptiles, 10 amphibians, 12 annelids, 18 mollusks, and 126 insects. It got the tag of World Heritage site on 23rd June 2014.

2. The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) is situated in the Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh, India. Initially constituted in 1984, GHNP was formally declared a National Park in 1999, covering an area of 754.4 sq km. The total area under Park administration (National Park, Wildlife Sanctuaries, and Ecozone) is 1171 sq km, which is together reckoned to as the Great Himalayan National Park Conservation Area (GHNPCA). A buffer zone of 5 km from the Park’s western boundary, covering 265.6 sq km. and including 2,300 households in 160 villages, was delineated as an Ecozone.
3. GHNPCA habitats to numerous rare and threatened species including the Western Tragopan, Chir Pheasant, Asiatic Black Bear, Himalayan Musk Deer Snow Leopard, Blue Sheep, Serow, and Himalayan Tahr. The Great Himalayan National Park possesses numerous flora and more than 375 fauna species, including about 181 birds,31 mammals, 9 amphibians, 3 reptiles 17 mollusks,127 insects, and 11 annelids.
4. The boundaries of GHNP touches with the recently established (2010) Khirganga National Park (710 sq km), the Pin Valley National Park (675 sq km) in Trans-Himalaya, Rupi-Bhabha Wildlife Sanctuary (503 sq km) in Sutlej watershed, and Kanawar Wildlife Sanctuary (61 sq km). The 905.40 sq km GHNPCA includes the Upper Mountain glacial and snowmelt water source origins of the westerly flowing Jiwa Nal, Sainj, and Tirthan Rivers and the north-westerly flowing Parvati River which are all headwater tributaries to the River Beas and subsequently, the Indus River.
